A Tuneful of Sherman
by Mark Hanson with Tommy Emmanual, Laurence Juber, Pat Donohue, Al Petteway, Doug Smith, and others
Mark Hanson has contributed two new fingerstyle guitar arrangements – a solo version of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and a stunning album-closing duet with Doug Smith of “It’s a Small World” - to this great new tribute CD of Sherman Brothers tunes. Other wonderful players who contributed include Tommy Emmanuel, Laurence Juber, Pat Donohue, Al Petteway, Dutchman Eltjo Haselhoff, Mike Dowling and Kenny Sultan.
The Sherman Brothers, born in the 1920s, are not so well known by name, but have contributed mightily to the popular music melodies loved worldwide. Their first Top 10 hit was “You’re Sixteen” in 1960, later taken to #1 By Ringo Starr. They hit their stride writing film scores for Disney – “Mary Poppins”, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, “The Jungle Book”, and “The Aristocats”, to name a few. They wrote “It’s A Small World” for the 1964 World’s Fair in New York City. In 2008 they were awarded the National Medal of Arts in a ceremony at the White House.
This is the best compilation fingerstyle-guitar release yet from our friend producer James Jensen at Solid Air Records. Every track features tremendous playing from these artists, and ear catching arrangements of these memorable melodies. Previous compilation releases include the Grammy award winning Pink Guitar - Henry Mancini and Delovely Guitar - Cole Porter.Track Listing:
