The Power of Two
by Mark Hanson and Doug Smith
"Mark and Doug have set a new standard for duet guitar playing." -- Tommy Emmanuel, Aug 6, 2005.
Fingerstyle guitar wizards Mark Hanson and Doug Smith have teamed up for a stunning new all-instrumental CD, Power of Two. Eleven of the 13 tracks are originals, many of them written as collaborations. The tracks show off the duo’s considerable chops, as well as the consummate feel and control of great musicians.
Outstanding tracks include the title cut, the tapping powerhouse "Dyerville Giant" (this one always brings down the house in concert!), and the playfully complex "Run Amok." Also included are a beautiful duo rendition of Mark’s Hawaiian slack-key composition "Waimea Canyon" and Doug’s "Embryonic Journey"-esque "Confluence." An added treat for Doug Smith fans is the inclusion of "Renewal II." As a solo piece, this is Doug’s most requested tune. Mark added a beautifully artistic second part to the original DADGAD piece. A sonic pleasure for everyone!
"The playing is spot on, and I really enjoyed (my tune) 'Snap A Little Owl,' which makes the original sound a little ragged." -- John Renbourn
"The playing is first-rate, but the seamless interplay of the two guitars is what makes this CD shine." -- Acoustic Guitar Magazine
"Dear Doug and Mark, I want to thank you so much for your amazing concert last Saturday night at the church in Trabuco Canyon (California). We really enjoyed it!!! I have been to many concerts before where the players were very good, but did not seem to enjoy it onstage. Your stage presence and continued smiles made it very enjoyable. I only wish I could have gone to the Sunday night show also! Thanks again. -- Your friend, BG"
