About Mark and Greta

Husband and wife team Mark Hanson and Greta Pedersen are, respectively, a Grammy-Award winning guitarist, and Young Audiences' 2009 National Artist of the Year. Their recording Then & Now was released in December of 2016.

Their concerts are memorable, highlighted by blazing fingerpicking, haunting ballads, fun songs and good humor. A steaming blues fingerpicking tune may segue into a Ray Charles ballad. An a capella duet of Oh, Brother Where Art Thou's "Down to the River to Pray" may be followed by a "name-that-tune" dulcimer/guitar medley or Dan Hick's "How Can I Miss You (When You Won't Go Away)". Likely, they will include a bit of audience participation!

Both Greta and Mark have music degrees from Stanford University. In addition to their performing, they are well respected music instructors and authors. Mark has written over two dozen guitar instruction manuals, and Greta's Magical Music Express CD won the Parents' Choice Award. Mark won a Grammy for his contributions to 2005's "Henry Mancini - Pink Guitar" CD, and Greta recently helped author PBS's "Between the Lions" early reading program.

Mark and Greta have performed around the world, and have shared the stage with many greats in the field - including the late Jerry Garcia. In 2009, they played and sang for the President of the United States in San Francisco. Mark's guitar recordings play on NPR, Martha Stewart Living, and many other programs, including American Idol!

They will prepare a requested song for special events: "The Book of Love" (Magnetic Fields and Peter Gabriel) - learned recently for a wedding in New York City - is now in their standard repertoire.

"They're warm, they're fun, musically so together; and most importantly, when they perform they touch you."
Tom Brown; KNBR Radio, San Francisco
