The Instructors
Two high-level professional instructors will join Mark Hanson for the Seminar. Scottish guitar wizard Tony McManus is one, and Pat Kirtley, master of all fingerstyle styles, is the other. Greta Pedersen will once again offer her very popular performance workshops.
Tony McManus
In the past 10 years, Tony has become one of the leading guitarists in Celtic music. He is a gifted fingerpicker and flatpicker, a deft practitioner of alternate tunings, an experienced teacher, and an engaging entertainer. He is recognized as one of the best at applying the challenging art of Celtic ornamentation (fiddle and pipe music) to the guitar. Tony has been nominated for the Musician of the Year award by the BBC Folk Awards and Scottish Traditional Music. His 2002 recording Coel More was included by Acoustic Guitar magazine in its Critics' Albums of the Year list, and won the Live Ireland Awards Album of the Year honor. He has contributed to over 60 albums through playing and producing, and has shared the stage with some of the world's greats, including Les Paul, Steve Morse, and Dougie McLean. Tony is also great fun to be around. We are pleased to have Tony join us.
Pat Kirtley
Pat taught at our seminar in 2000, and we are happy to have him back. With a category-defying repertoire of pop, blues, latin, jazz, and down-home country, he is a US National Fingerstyle Champion and National Thumbpicking champion whose playing continues to garner international praise. He was hailed as one of "The Next Generation: Hot New Acoustic Acts for the Millenium" by Acoustic Guitar Magazine. As a writer, Pat has been a featured columnist for magazines Onstage, Electronic Musician, Home Recording, Wood & Steel, and Germany's Akustik Gitarre. Pat is also a respected educator, known for his patience, encyclopedic knowledge of guitar, clear explanations of difficult ideas, and taking the time to address the individual needs of each student one-on-one. Pat has produced numerous instructional videos for Guitar Workshop and books for Mel Bay. His music is featured on National Public Radios Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and has been used as soundtracks on Lifetime Networks The Wire.
Mark Hanson
Mark is one of the top educators in the field of acoustic guitar. His 30 titles cover a wide range of styles and artists: from Travis-style, Hawaiian slack key, and blues fingerpicking; to the intricacies of Leo Kottke and Paul Simon. Mark is also a wonderful player and arranger, having won a Grammy in 2005 for his contributions to the Henry Mancini: Pink Guitar recording. Mark has two new solo CDs slated for late 2008 release on Solid Air Records. Mark's titles are published by Warner Brothers, Music Sales, and by Accent On Music LLC, the company Mark and his wife Greta Pedersen founded in 1986. Mark was an editor and columnist at Frets magazine in the 1980s, and has had several of his articles printed in Acoustic Guitar magazine recently. Mark's CDs are heard regularly on syndicated radio and TV, including "Drake's Passage" on American Idol! |
